A little of the history…
Since leaving Japan and spreading across the western world, Reiki has been interpreted in various ways and commented on extensively. The research of Japanese teachers, documents, photos and testimonies have allowed the Reiki method and the course of its founder Mikao Usui sensei to be disentangled from the many surrounding legends. While nobody today can presume to teach and practice Reiki like Mikao Usui sensei, except to provide tangible evidence, two major trends in the practice and teaching of Reiki are now emerging in Japan.
The Classical School, Jikiden Reiki
inheritor of Usui sensei and Hayashi sensei, it has preserved the authenticity of the Reiki method since the late 1920s.
The Modern School, Gendai Reiki
The quintessence of traditional Reiki techniques adapted to modern life and Western Reiki. Mikao Usui sensei created the Reiki method, an innovative holistic education that he wanted to be open to all.
